Deploy deep behind enemy lines. Certain missions will have severely limited Super Destroyer support.

— Mission Briefing

Commando Missions are Automaton Exclusive Missions appearing only in special Commando Operations on any Automaton planet undergoing a Liberation Campaign.

Commando missions provide Helldivers with little to no support from the Super Destroyer, rendering Helldivers unable to call in stratagems for a majority of the mission. Commando missions are highly suited to Stealth gameplay as they discourage most direct confrontation with the enemy, instead prioritizing a playstyle that focuses on avoiding the enemy and silently completing objectives.

Unique Mechanics

Threat Level

Unique to Commando Missions is the system of a varying threat level. When the mission starts, enemy presence will be low, resulting in a lower than average amounts of enemies in outposts, POIs, and patrols as well as a lower amount of larger enemies (depending on difficulty). When an enemy calls reinforcements, not only does a bot drop arrive, but the threat level increases as well. This results in more enemies present throughout the map at outposts, POIs, and patrols. Along with this, higher level enemies will start to appear more commonly (i.e. regular patrols may contain more Hulks or Reinforced Scout Striders).

Stratagems

Helldivers are only able to call in Stratagems when the Super Destroyer is in the area. When first landing in the mission area for the first time, Helldivers are given 60 seconds to call in stratagems. This time is best used to call in the requisitioned Support Weapon/Backpack that Helldivers brought with them. When this time is up, the Super Destroyer will leave the area and will not return unless Helldivers call it back, in which it will return for another 60 seconds. The Super Destroyer can only return once per mission, per Helldiver, so it is advised to only call it to return when faced against overwhelming odds.

Reinforcements

Since the Super Destroyer is not present during the mission, Reinforcements are not called in through your typical manner. Helldivers start the mission with zero reinforcements, and must acquire them by activating Reinforcement Pods. Activating Reinforcement Pods will grant the squad an additional three reinforcements. When a Helldiver is reinforced, they will deploy from the group of Reinforcement Pods nearest to whoever called the reinforcements. There will always be four sets of Reinforcement Pods in a mission area, totaling twelve additional reinforcements, regardless of squad size.

Reinforcement-related Boosters such as Increased Reinforcement Budget and Flexible Reinforcement Budget cannot be chosen before dropping in.

Optional Objectives

Commando Missions always contain four Reinforcement Pods and, at Medium Difficulty Icon.svg Medium and above, one additional Optional Objective in the mission area. These Optional Objectives scale by difficulty, ranging from Eliminate Automaton Hulks to Intercept Convoy. The extra Optional Objective will never be a friendly Objective, such as SEAF Artillery or a SEAF SAM Site, or one that requires a Hellbomb, such as Stratagem Jammer or Detector Tower.
