Tactical Information

  • The Expendable Anti-Tank is the first unlockable Support Weapon that is designed to penetrate tank armor, allowing the player to kill heavily-armored enemies.
  • True to its name, the EAT Stratagem quickly calls down a Hellpod that contains two disposable anti-tank rocket launchers and the weapon is automatically discarded after firing.
    • The primary utility of the EAT is to be able to call down anti-armor weaponry on very short notice to deal with armored threats.
    • Because of its disposable nature, the EAT can be used as a supplement to a regularly-carried Support Weapon. For example, the player can equip the MG-43 Machine Gun as their main Support Weapon, and then call down a pair of EATs upon encountering armored heavy enemies, temporarily dropping the Machine Gun to dispatch them and then retrieving it once the armored enemies are no longer a threat.
    • Bringing the EAT as the sole support weapon allows players to freely pick up any of the many support weapons, such as the Entrenchment Tool, found throughout the mission area or shared by other Helldivers. This frees up space for alternative Stratagems in the loadout.
    • The EAT can also be fired from the hip in any viewing direction without the need to aim, which is particularly useful when being pursued by large enemies such as Hulks or Chargers.
    • Despite its appearance, the EAT can be safely used at close range. The projectile itself delivers the primary damage, while the inner explosive radius of only 1.5 metres deals just 150 medium damage, which can be further reduced by up to 90% by diving or going prone. However, fortified armor with 50% explosive resistance is advised.
  • In terms of damage, the EAT occupies the middle tier compared to other anti-tank weapons.
    • The Spear inflicts twice as much damage as a single EAT rocket, while the Recoilless Rifle inflicts 60% more more damage. Both are able to defeat armored threats in only one or two shots.
    • The Quasar Cannon deals the same damage per shot as the EAT. While the EAT is disposable, the Quasar Cannon is a regularly-carried energy-based anti-tank weapon that must charge its attack each time. Both weapons can inflict severe damage against all armored enemies for each attack, and have the potential to defeat most of them in a single shot if they hit the target's weak spot.
    • The Commando and the Patriot Exosuit's mounted rocket pod both deal slightly more than half the damage of the EAT. As such, both weapons require multiple shots to defeat armored enemies, even when targeting weak spots.
    • However, there are currently only three enemies (Factory Strider, Fleshmop, Leviathan) that cannot be killed with a single shot to their weak spot. This makes landing a critical hit very rewarding and the EAT a reliable anti-tank choice across all battlefronts.
  • Because it is a disposable weapon, the EAT provides an immediate burst of power upon calldown, at the expense of sustained firepower.
    • As two launchers are called down in each Hellpod, the EAT has the advantage of allowing the player to rapidly fire up to two anti-tank warheads in quick succession without worrying about reloading or cooldown, and does not occupy the backpack slot due to not relying on ammunition.
    • The EAT arrives with an extended tube in the Hellpod, allowing immediately firing the weapon after pickup. However, be wary that the EAT has a weapon readying time once it was stowed over the shoulder. After switching back from another weapon, it cannot be fired until its tube has been extended again, so be sure to take this into account and equip the weapon a few seconds before bringing it to bear on a target.
    • The Stratagem's cooldown means that it can only be called down once every minute and has a maximum of two shots per calldown, making it less ideal in an environment where multiple armored targets need to be dispatched in a short amount of time.
  • The low cooldown of the EAT means that it can and should be called down early and often in the event that heavy firepower is needed.
    • When tied down to an area that must be defended, such as during a Spread Democracy, Launch ICBM or Evacuate High-Value Assets mission, it pays to call down the Stratagem at a key strategic point ahead of time. This allows the Stratagem to start coming off cooldown earlier, and call in a second set and more as time passes. By stocking up EAT Hellpods ahead of time, a team can be well-equipped to deal with any armored enemies at any time.
    • The EAT is also very valuable for destroying enemy objective buildings or preparing to dispatch incoming heavy enemies before they appear. For example, upon spotting a Spore Spewer at long range with no enemies nearby, an EAT can be called down to destroy it, allowing the Stratagem to come off cooldown before additional enemies are encountered. Similarly, when assaulting a Gunship Facility or preparing to defend against a Bot Drop, an EAT Hellpod can be called down and readied to shoot down incoming aircraft and destroy armored reinforcements, as a single shot can destroy a Gunship no matter the location hit, and can down a Dropship with a single rocket to a thruster.
    • One major advantage is that the player who calls down the weapon does not necessarily have to be the one who wields it. If the player with the equipped Stratagem is occupied dealing with other enemies, their teammates can pull a weapon from the Hellpod and use it to dispatch armored enemies in their place.
    • To the same effect, if a teammate has recently been reinforced and is far from their Support Weapon, calling down an EAT for them can give them a temporary weapon to wield until they are able to retrieve or call down their own Support Weapon.
    • Because of its extremely short cooldown, the most deadly aspect of the EAT is the Hellpod itself. It's well-suited for use as a frequent ballistic weapon, delivering 2,500 Anti-Tank VI damage by calling it down directly onto enemies. This tactic is particularly effective against Chargers, Hulks and Tanks, as the sticky Stratagem ball can be attached directly to them. Using a Stun Grenade to immobilise targets can also help to lock them in place for when the Hellpod begins landing.
    • The EAT's downside is that due to its reliance on calldowns, it can become temporarily unavailable during Ion Storms and in the range of Stratagem Jammers, as well as completely unavailable once the mission timer has expired and the Super Destroyer has left low orbit. Be sure to account for these factors when selecting this Stratagem and always call them down in advance, when the cooldown is ready.
  • The EAT can be used as a melee weapon, like a club.
