“A strafing run of the battlefield to clear small targets, delivered almost instantly. When called the strike will start from the beacon and go away from the direction you were facing when thrown
— Ship Management Terminal
The Eagle Strafing Run is an offensive stratagem that calls the Eagle in to fire a barrage of anti-tank, high-explosive shells, parallel to the player.

Tactical Information
- This stratagem can effectively clear small to medium-sized enemies and damage or even kill Heavies, although the latter is inconsistent against ones of smaller size.
- Helldivers may want to rely on other, more consistent stratagems such as the Eagle 500kg Bomb or dedicated anti-tank support weapons to deal with Heavies.
- For best results when using the Strafing Run against Heavies, line up the strategem beacon toward any weak spots (such as a burrowed Impaler's face) or along the length of the enemy.
- This can even be done to destroy a Leviathan in one or two uses of the strategem, so long as it is flying low enough. The strategem beacon should be thrown from underneath the front or back of the Leviathan to the opposite end, so that the shells hit it on their way to the target area on the ground.
- The stratagem has an apparent maximum range of 50m, beginning from its stratagem beacon. It's effective range is dependent on the surrounding terrain.
- Out of all the Eagle stratagems, the Strafing Run deploys the quickest. This is most likely due to the shells traveling faster than rockets and bombs from the fighter craft.
- The Strafing Run fires in the direction you throw the Stratagem. Throw behind yourself while being chased for maximum effect (bouncing the Stratagem may change the Strafe direction).
- The stratagem beacon's direction is chosen based on where the beacon lands and where you throw it from. A bouncing beacon makes it harder to keep track of the direction
- Unlike most offensive Stratagems, the Eagle Strafing Run will not alert or aggro enemies until the first shot is fired.
- The Strafing Run can destroy Automaton Fabricators, Enemy Bio-Processors, AA & Mortar Emplacements, grounded Dropships, Spore Spewers, Shrieker Nests and Illegal Broadcast Towers.
- The Strafing Run can possibly destroy Bug Holes if a shell lands inside. This can be more consistently achieved with some Bug Hole variants by throwing the stratagem beacon directly in front of or on the lip to the opening; some variants, often ones with "roofs" or other top-covering obstacles, will be more difficult to destroy consistently.
- A single Strafing Run cannot destroy a shielded grounded Illuminate Warp Ship, but will break the shield, allowing a follow-up Strafing Run or explosive to finish the job. Alternatively, the shield can be stripped by other means, and a single Strafing Run used to destroy the Warp Ship.
- The Strafing Run deals massive damage against Hive Lords due to the large size of the beast. It is recommended to throw the strafing run as close to the Hive Lord as possible to ensure maximum hits.
Applicable Ship Modules
The following Ship Modules affect the Eagle Strafing Run:
| Department | Ship Module | Effect |
|---|---|---|
| Hangar | Liquid-Ventilated Cockpit | Reduces Eagle stratagem cooldown time by 50%. |
| Pit Crew Hazard Pay | Reduces Eagle Rearm time by 20%. | |
| Expanded Weapons Bay | Increases the number of Eagle stratagem uses per Rearm by 1. | |
| Advanced Crew Training | Eagle Rearm further reduced by 10% if called in while Eagle uses still remain. | |
| Bridge | Morale Augmentation | Reduces cooldown time for all Stratagems by 5%. |

Trivia
- During development, the statistics of the Eagle Strafing Run were modeled after the GAU-8 Avenger Gatling cannon famously used on the A-10 Thunderbolt, but it caused severe lag due to the high fire rate and explosive ammunition fired every 5th shot.[1]
