These spindly machines stalk the battlefield, reaping patriotic innocents with their cycloptic death beam. They see with only one eye, emblematic of the limited, closed-minded perspective of the entire Illuminate species.

— Helldivers 2 PlayStation Store Page

The Harvester is a large, mechanical tripod created by the Illuminate. It is equipped with a shield that will absorb incoming damage from many weapons and stratagems until it has been broken, and fires a powerful, continuous laser weapon from its single eye from long range or an arcing electrical shock for short range.

Spawning

The Harvester may be encountered in patrols, guarding Monoliths, and can be summoned as part of Illuminate reinforcements.

Behavior

Harvesters do not deploy their shields until alerted. In combat, their main attack is a sweeping death beam which they charge for a small moment before firing, near-instantaneously killing Helldivers. At close range, Harvesters will instead discharge an equally deadly arc of electricity from their eye.

* Parts with their HP listed as "Main" do not have their own individual health. All damage dealt to these parts is transferred to the enemy's Main health pool.
** Refer to armor values and enemy durability as defined in Damage.
*** The percentage of damage that is applied to the enemy's Main health pool. At 0 HP, the enemy dies. Unless the enemy has constitution, then it will bleedout and die.
**** ExDR means explosive damage resistance, this is a percentage between 0 and 100. If this value is 100%, the part is explosive immune, meaning explosives cannot damage it. Explosions will only directly damage Main health if it is internal.

Tactical Information

  • Although they are not as healthy as other towering units such as Bile Titans and Factory Striders, Harvesters are extraordinarily durable in their own way: they are protected by a regenerating energy shield.
  • Their energy shield is guaranteed to absorb any single instance of damage and can regenerate after breaking. High damage output is necessary to remove this shield and damage the Harvester directly.
    • The prongs located above and below the Harvester's eye are its shield generators; only one needs to be removed to disable a Harvester's ability to shield permanently.
    • The eye is a false weak spot, and destroying it will not kill the Harvester but empower the laser's damage to 1,800 DPS, from 1,400 DPS, and allow it to taper off into a thinner beam at the end of the laser's duration.
      • However, since overkill damage transfers to main the GR-8 Recoilless Rifle can 1 shot a Harvester to the eye. But even if you miss and hit the carapace it'll kill the Harvester.
    • Explosive weapons that produce shrapnel, such as the R-36 Eruptor and the AC-8 Autocannon in flak mode, are especially effective at cheaply removing a Harvester's shield with only one or two shots.
  • It is important to note the complete explosion immunity that Harvesters have across their exterior body parts. This renders them highly resistant to stratagems like the Eagle 500kg Bomb and undamageable by purely-explosive weapons until their carapace is broken.
  • The Harvester possesses some of the deadliest weaponry of any enemy in the game; even a graze from their laser can bring any Helldiver to death's doorstep, and its arc attack is capable of killing multiple teammates with one shot.
    • The arc attack has far better targeting, but can only be used at close range, and Harvesters cannot easily close the distance to their target.
    • The M-102 Fast Reconnaissance Vehicle and Patriot or Emancipator exosuits are more vulnerable to Harvesters due to their large frame, though their large health pool is enough to survive a few seconds of direct fire.
    • Even after being eliminated, the corpse and especially the detached legs falling onto Helldivers can be fatal.
  • Continuous ARC-3 Arc Thrower attacks are capable of halting the fighting capabilities of a Harvester, provided the shield has been broken.
    • Same however cannot be said when using A/ARC-3 Tesla Tower: Harvester will continue moving around and is also capable using its laser in close range. (NOTE: Support ticket pending to inquire if this intentional.)
  • The legs have several fatal weak points (hip joints, thighs, shins, feet) all which are only protected by Armor AV3 Icon.png Medium armor. Destroying any of these limbs is enough to eliminate a Harvester.
  • The Electrical Conduit armor passive is extremely valuable against Harvesters for its ability to resist lethal amounts of arc damage. This allows the user to remain near Harvesters, who will only use their arc attack for minor damage.
    • The Arc-attack of harvester still applies the "Slowed" effect on Helldivers; this effect cannot be negated.

Trivia

  • The Harvester appears to be successor to Tripod and its stronger version Strider from Helldivers 1.
    • However, unlike the versions from the First Galactic War, the Harvester takes the role of an enemy elite, not frontline infantry
  • Currently, it is unknown whether the name refers to actual harvest process of something. Or if the name is referencing to their uncanny resemblance to Opiliones aka. "harvest spiders / daddy longlegs". Or alternatively to Pholcidae aka. "gyrating (long-legged) spiders".
  • The Harvester has a resembling appearance to "Fighting Machines/Tripods" from the H.G Wells Novel; War of the Worlds. The design is more or less derived from the Tripods seen in Steven Spielberg's adaptation of War of the Worlds (2005) as it has a more squid-like design and it shows a more recent version of its signature heat ray/laser attack and the energy shields. Players are also calling it Tripods for that reason as well.
  • The Harvester appears to be a cybernetic organism rather than a robot, as players can observe what seems to be a destroyed brain when it dies.
