Jet Brigade Scorcher Hulk

Modified by the Automaton icon.svg Jet Brigade Icon.svg Jet Brigade, The Jet Brigade Scorcher Hulk is a variant of the Hulk Scorcher that has a massive, specialised Heavy Jump Pack.

Spawning

All Hulks are replaced with their Jet Brigade variant on planets occupied by the Jet Brigade. This includes the Hulk Scorcher and Hulk Bruiser but not the Hulk Obliterator.

Like other Hulk Variants, Jet Brigade Hulks spawn from Bot Drops, within patrols, guarding Automaton Outposts, Objectives, Minor Places of Interest, and Bulk Fabricators.

Behavior

Jet Brigade Scorcher Hulks are essentially unchanged from their standard counterparts, but are equipped with a gargantuan Jump Pack that covers their rear vent. The Jump Pack is covered in Armor AP3 Icon.png Medium armor.

When initially detected, Jet Brigade Scorcher Hulks at medium to long range will use their Jump Pack to close the distance to Helldivers, where it will either choose to sweep the area with its Heavy Flamethrower or rip the Helldivers apart with its Rotary Saw. When a Helldiver exits their range, they will reengage by using their jump-pack.

* Parts with their HP listed as "Main" do not have their own individual health. All damage dealt to these parts is transferred to the enemy's Main health pool.
** Refer to armor values and enemy durability as defined in Damage.
*** The percentage of damage that is applied to the enemy's Main health pool. At 0 HP, the enemy dies. Unless the enemy has constitution, then it will bleedout and die.
**** ExDR means explosive damage resistance, this is a percentage between 0 and 100. If this value is 100%, the part is explosive immune, meaning explosives cannot damage it. Explosions will only directly damage Main health if it is internal.

Weapons Loadout

Industrial Heavy Flamer

Looking more fitting in an industrial smelter than in battle. This heavy Flamer excels at flushing dug-in infantry from their bunkers and boltholes and forcing those who survive to fall back in complete disarray. Popular with Hulk Scorcher units.

Heavy Rotary Saw

The iconic armament of the Hulk Scorcher. This macabre weapon is both brutally simple in design and intent. Being more than capable of tearing apart flesh and breaking open steel, with not even armoured vehicles being truly safe from the Hulk's wrath.

Heavy Stomp

Hulk units are able to use their immense bulk to clear difficult terrain, obstacles (natural or human-made), as well as the occasional unfortunate with ease. Often also clears paths of dangers for lighter units during patrols as a result.

Heavy Jump Pack Explosion

Wheras the standard Jump Pack can be seen as a backpack sized petrol tank, the Heavy Jump Pack is akin to a massive propane tank, often engulfing both friend and foe in burning petrol and shrapnel as it finally ruptures from enemy fire.

The massive reactor that powers the Hulk is both powerful and equally volatile. It is such that, should the Hulk fall in combat, the Reactor effectively goes critical before finally erupting

Tactical Information

Jet Brigade Hulk Specific

  • Destroying the jump-pack will instantly kill the hulk instead of causing it to bleed out, as well as exploding and damaging nearby enemies. It may be preferable to target this jump-pack to turn the Hulk into an improvised explosive against other Automatons.
  • As the jetpack is not immune to explosion damage, multiple sources of damage that would otherwise struggle to kill a Hulk from the front can successfully destroy the jetpack from the front due to their large explosion radius.
  • The upper vents of the Hulk's jetpack also stick out atop the front profile of the Hulk and can be targeted with any weapon of Armor Penetration Armor AP3 Icon.png Medium or above to these spots, though targeting them may prove tricky, particularly when shooting from a lower elevation.
    • The jetpack armor completely covers the unarmored vents found on standard Hulks. Therefore, on Jet Brigade missions it is advised to bring at least one weapon of Armor Penetration Armor AP3 Icon.png Medium or above to have a way to deal with them.

Hulk Scorcher

  • Barring Inflammable and Acclimated-equipped Helldivers, the Hulk Scorcher's flamethrower has a far reach and can quickly kill Helldivers. Helldivers should react to burns by diving to put themselves out.
  • Due to their movement speed, it is difficult for Helldivers to outrun and retreat from a Hulk Scorcher. Destroying one of its legs will significantly slow it and leave it vulnerable to follow-up shots to its head or vents.
  • Helldivers can dodge the sawblade by diving away from it. However, as the Hulk Scorcher has no animation telegraphing its sawblade attacks, Helldivers should anticipate the swing once the Hulk Scorcher gets into range.

Hulks

  • Heavily armed and armored, Hulks are powerful enemies that demand special attention due to their durability and heavy weapons payload, as they are capable of killing Helldivers in short order.
  • Hulks are covered in Armor AV4 Icon.png Heavy armor, but they do have two weak spots: the glowing heat sink on their backs which are Armor AV1 Icon.png Unarmored II, and their Head, which only has 250 health and will kill a Hulk if destroyed.
    • A Hulks vents can be damaged by any weapon, but are rather durable. It is advised to use higher-damage Support Weapon to more easily destroy the vents. Destroying its vents will cause the Hulk to go into a bleedout state, where they can be seen hobbling and flailing its weapons.
    • The RS-422 Railgun, APW-1 Anti-Materiel Rifle, and S-11 Speargun are capable of destroying its head with a single shot.
  • The Hulk's slow movement speed make them particularly vulnerable to dedicated anti-tank weapons such as the EAT-17 Expendable Anti-Tank, LAS-99 Quasar Cannon, and GR-8 Recoilless Rifle and are capable of destroying a Hulk in a single shot.
  • While more durable than its weak spots, the Hulk's limbs can often be valid targets for destruction depending on the situation.
    • The Hulk's arm joints can be shot and destroyed, causing them to drop that arm's respective weapon. Once both arms are destroyed, Hulks attempt to stomp on Helldivers instead.
    • The Hulk's legs can also be shot and destroyed; destroying one leg cripples its movement, and destroying both legs will kill the Hulk.
      • The Hulk's legs are often much more convenient targets than its head or heat sinks. Destroying a leg will stagger it for several seconds and significantly slow its movement speed.

Variants

Hulks come in five different variants:

Trivia

  • The Hulk appears to be inspired by various Imperial Dreadnoughts used by Space Marines in Warhammer 40,000.
  • Despite their unique jetpack function, Jet Brigade Hulks retain their default names when pinged (e.g. 'Hulk Scorcher', 'Hulk Bruiser').
  • Jet Brigade Hulks and their assets were present in the game files since the Jet Brigade's original release. They finally made their official debut in Patch 1.003.104.
