Offers its user brief fixed-height flight, stable enough for precise marksmanship.

— Ship Mangement Terminal

The Hover Pack is a backpack stratagem from the Borderline Justice warbond. When activated, it propels the wearer in the air for around 6 seconds. After the six seconds, it will deactivate, and will have to recharge.

Functionality

The Hover Pack activates when the user presses their Jump Pack input. It launches the user high into the air before slowly leveling out, maintaining the user's height for six seconds before deactivating. Before landing, the Hover Pack will briefly re-activate for up to four seconds to slow the user's fall to a safe velocity. It is not possible to deactivate the Hover Pack until the fuel has been expended. The Hover Pack will take at most 12 seconds to recharge before it can be used again, depending on how much fuel was spent to slow the user's fall.

While hovering, the user can slowly move around in the air in any horizontal direction. They can aim and fire their weapons, input and throw Stratagems, and use Stims.

A secondary function occurs when the user activates the Hover Pack while falling from any height. Rather than launching them into the air, the Hover Pack will begin to slow the user's descent until they land, while only using a small fraction of its fuel - being ready again shortly after landing. This cannot activate if the user is in a ragdoll state while falling.

If the Hover Pack is activated and then unequipped (voluntarily or not) in flight, it will continue to fly on its own. Without an operator to weigh it down, the Hover Pack's velocity is massively increased and will cover great distances before it runs out of fuel.

Tactical Information

  • The Hover Pack provides fantastic vertical mobility. The amount of height it reaches grants a significant advantage over melee units. It can also be used to reach otherwise inaccessible areas such as mountains or rooftops.
    • Compared to the LIFT-850 Jump Pack, the Hover Pack grants more height, better control over the landing location, and is better suited for fighting while in mid-air. In exchange, users lose the ability to travel longer distances more quickly.
  • Aiming stability and recoil are significantly worse while airborne. It can be alleviated by remaining in place, but is difficult to control while moving.
  • Hovering does not make the user unreachable by enemies; Hunters can jump high enough to hit a hovering Helldiver, and Automatons can knock users out of the sky with rockets. Being ragdolled while airborne can be fatal, as the Hover Pack will not be able to save the user from a hard landing.
  • As Automatons and Overseers are able to fire upwards with ease, it is inadvisable to use the Hover Pack against them in combat situations. Instead, it should be used by Helldivers to access otherwise inaccessible areas to use as cover, vantage points or an escape route.
  • If using a flamethrower-type weapon with the Hover Pack, avoid firing directly downward as the Helldiver's legs will be caught in the flames.
    • Catching on fire while using the Hover Pack may be survived with the timely use of a Stim and/or wearing the Inflammable Armor Passive.
