Lava is a unique feature of Magma Deserts. It is considered an Environmental Hazard.
Effect
- Anything coming into contact with lava will instantly ignite, dealing
100 DPS and constantly re-igniting entities until any contact with the lava ceases.
- Touching the lava will also deal a small amount of extra damage.
Location
- Similarly to water on certain planets, lava can come in the form of lakes and seas, being found around the edges of mission areas and in large lakes separating large sections.
- Most of the time, these lakes will be large, requiring anything desiring to cross them to find an alternative route.
- Occasionally, Automaton-built bridges can be found, allowing the lake to be crossed quickly and easily.
- Lava can also be found in the form of rivers, flowing across the surface and between crevices and rock formations.
- Rivers can easily be avoided by diving over them, as they are usually not very wide.
- Rarely, tiny lava pockets can be seen on the rocky surface of a planet, being on average not much bigger than a human.
Tactical Information
- Walking over lava is not advised as the Helldiver will immediately be set on fire and take 100 damage per second, killing them in just around a second, depending on armor.
- As is standard for being set on fire, diving will immediately stop the fire. However when diving on lava, the Helldiver will be instantly re-ignited.
- Tthe use of certain Armor with passives such as Inflammable and Acclimated, and boosters such as the Vitality Enhancement booster can delay death by a few seconds.
- While vehicles can also cross over lava, usage of them on lava is also not advised, especially for longer periods of time.
- The M-102 Fast Reconnaissance Vehicle is not recommended for crossing lava.
- Once the FRV comes into contact with lava, the rubber tires will immediately catch on fire and explode, making any future steering extremely difficult.
- The main body of the FRV will also catch on fire, exploding after about 10 seconds.
- Both the EXO-45 Patriot Exosuit and the EXO-49 Emancipator Exosuit can be used to cross smaller patches of lava such as rivers, but this will damage the exosuit. its legs in particular.
- The M-102 Fast Reconnaissance Vehicle is not recommended for crossing lava.
- Anything landing on lava that comes inside a Hellpod, such as Helldivers, emplacements, turrets and Support weapons will not catch on fire as they are protected by the Hellpod.
- Enemies such as the Automaton Legion cannot pathfind over lava, so if they happen to spawn on an island surrounded by lava with no way off of it, they will be unable to move.
- Stuck Automatons may still shoot back if they spot the Helldiver.
