Leviathan

The Leviathan is a Massive Illuminate warship with massive firepower and durability in Helldivers 2.
Spawning
Leviathans spawn beyond the mission area, similarly to the Stingray. Up to 5 Leviathans may appear at any time on Hard and above.
They will exclusively spawn on planets with a Leviathan Blockade Operation Modifier.
Behavior
The Leviathan hovers above the battlefield at a variable altitude. It attacks any Helldiver, SEAF Soldier, or Civilian with four ventral heavy cannons and ten plasma bomb ports. The plasma bomb ports only fire on enemies directly below or nearby the Leviathan.

* Parts with their HP listed as "Main" do not have their own individual health. All damage dealt to these parts is transferred to the enemy's Main health pool.
** Refer to armor values and enemy durability as defined in Damage.
*** The percentage of damage that is applied to the enemy's Main health pool. At 0 HP, the enemy dies. Unless the enemy has constitution, then it will bleedout and die.
**** ExDR means explosive damage resistance, this is a percentage between 0 and 100. If this value is 100%, the part is explosive immune, meaning explosives cannot damage it.
Explosions will only directly damage Main health if it is internal.
Tactical Information
- A Leviathan's Turrets can be destroyed by any
Heavy AP or higher Support Weapon, drastically lowering the Leviathan's lethality.
- The LAS-99 Quasar Cannon and EAT-17 Expendable Anti-Tank are very effective at this, destroying the turrets in a single shot.
- Given their tough armor and massive health pool, Anti-Tank options such as the GR-8 Recoilless Rifle, FAF-14 Spear, and E/AT-12 Anti-Tank Emplacement are favorable against Leviathans
- Destroying the Fins or Tail of the Leviathan will expose its internals (marked by spewing blue flames) which are
Heavy armor, and can be damaged by Heavy Armor Penetrating weaponry like the APW-1 Anti-Materiel Rifle or LAS-98 Laser Cannon.
- Destroying the Fins or Tail of the Leviathan will expose its internals (marked by spewing blue flames) which are
- The Leviathan's plasma cannons and bomb droppers are extremely deadly, capable of killing Helldivers and vehicles in a single shot. It is recommended that Helldivers immediately seek cover and attempt to destroy the turrets when in line of sight of a Leviathan.
- The bomb droppers can only be destroyed by destroying the fins on which they are attached.
- The energy cannons have a near infinite detection range, unaffected by vision-obscuring weather such as Blizzards. However, due to their limited vertical turning, they typically are only a threat to Helldivers up to 230m away.
- While difficult and requiring precise positioning, it is possible to destroy a Leviathan with a single Eagle Strafing Run[1] or Orbital Gatling Barrage.
- Smoke Strategems such as the Eagle Smoke Strike or Orbital Smoke Strike can be very useful to block a Leviathan's line of sight, preventing them from targeting Helldivers.
- If a cannon is already targeting a Helldiver, than it will continue doing so, even if line of sight is blocked by smoke.
- As with other large enemies such as the Bile Titan, the falling wreckage of a Leviathan can damage Helldivers caught underneath it. Helldivers should be prepared to move quickly out of the way if shooting at one directly overhead.
- Using Exosuits, FRVs, and Emplacement Stratagems is ill advised due to how easily they can be destroyed by a Leviathan, very likely killing the Helldiver in the process.

Trivia
- Leviathans bear resemblance to certain Artiopods, also known as Trilobites (and close relatives), like for example Aglaspis or Pseudosaukianda.
- The Leviathan's namesake is derived from the Bible, in which it is described as a fire breathing sea monster clad in impenetrable scales, in line with its in-game portrayal of having tremendous aerial artillery power and being heavily armored.
- It is possible, after strenuous effort, to climb onto the back of the leviathan; you will not receive damage as you are above it.
