Tactical Information
- 6 salvos of 8 mines are deployed, totaling up to 48 Gas mines if the deploying mechanism completes it's distribution without being destroyed prematurely.
- The MD-8 Gas Mines are an extremely powerful area-control tool. Despite dealing no direct damage, the enormous amount of toxic gas contained in every minefield can single-handedly shut down an enemy attack.
- Each mine released is essentially a G-4 Gas grenade in mine form, retaining an identical area-of-effect and cloud duration.
- The Advanced Filtration armor passive grants 80% resistance to poison gas created by the MD-8 Gas Mines.
- Daring Helldivers can exploit this passive by using an MD-8 minefield as a zone of relative safety against hordes of melee units. Enemies who pursue them inside will be disoriented and take much more damage than the insulated Helldiver would.
- Out of all the minefield stratagems, the MD-8 can be considered the least likely to kill teammates, since they deal negligible contact damage and the poison gas effect can be out-healed with a Stim.
General Minefield Tips
- When not obstructed, the mines are flung into the distance between 10-20-meters across flat terrain. Differences in terrain height will affect mine deployment distance.
- The deploying mechanism is vulnerable to damage after emerging from the Hellpod. If it is destroyed prematurely, any mines in reserve will be destroyed with it and deal no damage.
- Strategic placement is key to make the most out of each minefield. Place them wherever enemies are expected to travel through, such as in the path of an enemy reinforcement, or use it to cover your flank in a retreat.
- They will explode immediately upon taking damage. This can be used to a helldiver's advantage, by shooting mines beneath enemies. Be warned that area-of-effect damage also triggers mines, notably Eagle and Orbital stratagems will destroy mines if deployed in their vicinity, which can be wasteful.
- Depending on the terrain, it is possible for mines to plant in very close proximity to one another. If one mine explodes, it will detonate its neighbors, which can start a chain reaction destroying a large amount of mines.
Applicable Ship Modules

Department | Ship Module | Effect |
---|---|---|
Bridge | Morale Augmentation | Reduces cooldown time for all Stratagems by 5%. |
Engineering

Synthetic Supplementation | Reduces cooldown time for Sentry, Emplacement, and Resupply stratagems by 10%. |
Rapid Launch System | Removes deployment time for Emplacement stratagems. |
Trivia
- The "Liberate Salt-Rich Planets to Produce Chlorine" Major Order on December 5, 2024 was initiated to procure the necessary materials to add Gas Mines to players' standard arsenal. Although Gas Mines were temporarily made available for 24 hours on December 7, 2024, the Major Order failed and Gas Mines were not added to the standard arsenal as a result.
- The end of the "Save the Gas Mines or the Moderately Feeble Young Adults" Major Order on March 2, 2025 would finally ensure the deployment of the Gas Mines into the standard arsenal, following a successful defense of both planets involved in the Major Order.
- Gas Mines were made temporarily available for 24 hours during the Festival of Reckoning Major Order.
- Gas Mines were made temporarily available for 24 hours on 07 February 2025.
- Upon the successful conclusion of the "Save the Gas Mines or the Moderately Feeble Young Adults" Major Order, the Gas Mines were unlocked for regular use.
