The Magma Desert is a unique Automaton exclusive biome that was introduced in update 1.005.000. It is a firey planet fully of lava and little vegetation.

Description

Constant eruptions keep this planet covered in lava flows and utterly inhospitable to Democratic life. It also makes it a treasure trove of rare minerals.

  • Thanks to the planet's temperatures, unstable and explosive nature, and their noxious atmosphere, these planets are completely uninhabitable. However, they are very rich in minerals like Platinum, which the Automatons are mining for.
  • The surface of Magma planets consist partially of lava coming in the form of lakes, rivers and pockets on the ground, which often have smaller bubbles of magma bubbling on it's surface and exploding into even more lava.
  • Most of the remaining surface is made up of rock, mostly basalt. Basalt comes in large spires and outcroppings, but is also present as the very ground a Helldiver would stand on. Occasionally, patches of grass will be present growing out of sand alongside cacti, the taller grass will slow down any Helldivers walking through it.
  • Small mountain ranges made up of hot rocks, some of which glow orange, can also be found. Rarely, ravines that go lower than the lava lakes and rivers will also be found.
  • The skies themselves are noxious and filled with ash, letting little sunlight through. Sunlight however does pass the ash clouds as during the day, the surface will look a light grey, while during the night, it will be nearly black. While the stars are never visible, any nearby planets may be seen between clouds.

Environmental Hazards

  • Magma planets have lava rivers and lakes which ignite anything flammable, along with dealing some extra damage when standing on it.
  • Magma planets have small lava geysers that periodically explode, creating a shockwave that launches any Helldivers that stand too close into the air, before spurting out lava and igniting anything nearby for a few seconds.
  • Magma planets will occasionally have grey cacti growing out of patches of sand, which will swiftly drain your stamina when touched.
  • Magma planets contain many small gorges and valleys; Helldivers can use these areas to escape line of sight quickly, or use explosives to greater effect while firing down on enemies in these areas. Beware that enemies with explosive rockets can also utilize these terrain features against Helldivers.
  • Automaton-built bridges can be found spanning across lava lakes, allowing for safe passage across these pools of lava.
    • Automaton-built bridges can be crossed by the Automatons.

Trivia

  • Magma Deserts are the first biome to be introduced with a new planet. While other biomes were introduced by changing existing planets, the first three Magma Planets were brand new, with their own locations and supplylines.
    • These include: Fury, K, and Mox.
  • Super Earth High Command found out that the Automatons were protecting themselves on Magma Planets by retrofitting themselves with iridium-infused superalloy heatsinks. After defending the planets from Automaton counter-attack, they were later repurposed by Super Earth for the Star of Peace's maximum-density thermal dissipation housing.
    • The surplus iridium was used to create premium amenities, such as iridium-plated latrines, novelty beverage goblets, and complimentary viewing glasses for children when the Star of Peace's inaugural operation.
