Sergeants (level 10) and higher can unlock then purchase attachments and patterns by acquiring weapon experience then spending Requisition Slips.

Weapons can be equipped at the Armory or in a Hellpod on the Bridge before missions in Helldivers 2.
Overview
Weapons have different damage types. Most have recoil.
Acquisition
Most personal weapons are unlocked through Warbonds using 
Medals, with 11 exceptions.[1]
Most support weapons are purchased through the Ship Management with 
Requisition Slips, with 15 exceptions.[2]

Support Weapons
Support weapons are selected as part of your loadout during deployment. Once on the battlefield, Helldivers can summon these weapons by inputting a unique stratagem code and throwing a beacon on the ground. They are then delivered from the Destroyer to the planet's surface via Hellpods. Certain supports are either exclusive to or also available at various POIs.
Civilian-grade support weapons are only found on the ground and cannot be called in.
