Tactical Information
- A basic but flexible and effective Stratagem, Orbital Precision Strike launches a single shot from the Super Destroyer at the targeted point, exploding on impact.
- The explosion of the shell inflicts tremendous damage, and is capable of instantly killing any non-heavy enemy within 4 meters of the impact point while also killing or greatly damaging anything within 12 meters. Additionally, if the shell itself impacts an enemy, it can kill anything smaller than a Factory Strider or Bile Titan.
- The heavy destructive force of the explosion also allows this Stratagem to be used to destroy objective buildings, giving it utility beyond simply killing enemies.
- With a low cooldown time that can be improved further with Ship Module upgrades, OPS can be available for regular use whenever the situation calls for it.
- While the explosive radius of Orbital Precision Strike is respectably large, it is also quite limited due to other constraints on the Stratagem.
- True to its name, OPS will attempt to exactly target the Stratagem ball's beacon. This means that the player must be precise with aiming their throw, as the Stratagem ball bouncing off of an errant surface can cause the strike to completely miss.
- The Stratagem only impacts once at the target point, which makes it less useful when enemies are spread out over a wide area. As such, it cannot deal with large waves as effectively as wide-area Stratagem like Eagle Cluster Bomb.
- Be mindful of where the strike is occurring relative to the Super Destroyer's position. As the Super Destroyer is positioned above the middle of the mission map, an OPS calldown near the edge of the level comes in at a shallow angle and can strike level terrain like cliffs and tall buildings that are in the way. Strikes closer to the middle of the level will come down from almost straight up.
- Remember that there is a delay between the Stratagem ball landing and activating the calldown, and the shell impacting the target point. Take the shell's travel time into account when trying to strike moving targets, predict where they will be in 3-4 seconds and toss accordingly.
- The heavy destructive power of the shell allows Orbital Precision Strike to kill most enemies and buildings close to the impact point.
- In general, an unaware enemy patrol can be completely wiped out if an OPS can be called in directly on top of them, or at the least severely culled.
- Beware that heavy enemies like Chargers, Annihilator Tanks and Hulks will survive a strike if the shell does not directly impact them. As such, this Stratagem is not ideal for killing heavy targets from full health unless they can be rendered stationary (such as with the aid of a G-23 Stun or by maneuvering around them to bait them into performing attacks that lock them in place). Additionally, Harvesters are protected by breakable armor that can easily absorb the majority of the damage from the shell even on a direct hit.
- The Demolition Force of OPS allows it to destroy almost any structure in a single strike. There are very few exceptions to this.
- Certain objectives which require calling down a Hellbomb such as Detector Towers and Rogue Research Stations can be bypassed by using OPS instead. This can save time and ensure reliable destruction depending on the situation.
- OPS is also very reliable for killing enemy spawners in a single shot, particularly Automaton Fabricators, Bile Titan holes, and Illuminate Warp Ships even if their shields are up.
- The only enemy structures that an Orbital Precision Strike cannot destroy are: Automaton Fuel Reserves, Automaton Air Base Control Towers, Automaton Gunship Facilities, Automaton Orbital Cannons and Illuminate Monoliths.
- The Stratagem can be useful even when not used to kill enemies or destroy structures. Because of its low cooldown, it can be expended to destroy level geometry such as cargo containers in Minor Places of Interest or blow up walls/fences. This can be especially useful when fighting in urban terrain, as perimeter walls can be quickly destroyed to create an impromptu breach rather than walking along the wall trying to search for an opening.
