Tactical Information
- A Punisher variant, the Cookout is a pump action shotgun that ignites targets that it hits and individually reloads into two eight-round tubes.
- Enemies that are hit by a single pellet from the Cookout will immediately ignite, taking burning damage over a period of 3 seconds.
- With a 16-round internal magazine and the Rounds Reload trait, the Cookout is very ammo-efficient and will never discard any ammunition while reloading.
- Unlike the Punisher, the Cookout fires a large number of low-damage pellets, which gives it wider coverage.
- The general role of the Cookout is to ignite small enemies from range, letting the afterburn inflict damage over time.
- Due to its ability to set targets on fire, it is particularly effective against small enemies like Scavengers, Shriekers and Voteless, which have small amounts of health that can be completely dispatched by the burning alone.
- Compared to the standard Punisher, the Cookout inflicts less damage per round, giving it less raw damage output against single targets with larger amounts of health.
- The Cookout can be compared to the Breaker Incendiary, another shotgun that sets its targets on fire with incendiary ammunition. However, unlike the Breaker Incendiary, the Cookout's buckshot can stagger most targets that it hits, giving it a measure of stopping power when faced with tough enemies.
- The ideal use of the Cookout is shooting at groups of small enemies from range, allowing the burning to deal damage to them over time and kill them before they can get close enough to attack.
- Beware that burning damage is inflicted to the main body of the target, and thus does not weaken any particular body parts regardless of where the pellets hit. This makes the weapon fare poorly at trying to kill targets by destroying their weak points.
- Generally, try to shower multiple targets with pellets when possible, then retreat and allow the burning damage to hurt them without having to engage them. Effective use of the this tactic involves keeping targets on fire with as few shots as possible, only engaging them to set them on fire if they've been put out.
- When reloading with exactly 8 rounds in the magazine, the final round count will increase by one round, making it 17 rounds. Moreover, every subsequent reload performed with 8 or more rounds remaining will result in a final count of 17 rounds, until the number of rounds in the magazine drops below 8.

Trivia
- The SG-451 Cookout's designation is likely a reference to Fahrenheit 451.
- Compared to other shotguns based off of the Punisher, the Cookout has a very prominent muzzle flash, evidence of which can be seen in the rainbow oxidation ring on its muzzle brake.
