The Sagan Sector is assumed to be named after Carl Sagan, a renowned astronomer that was a vocal proponent of the possibility of alien life. He was also notable for being a science communicator. He wrote multiple books, including Pale Blue Dot. Carl Sagan was also a co-writer and narrator of the television series Cosmos: A Personal Voyage, which became the most watched series in US television history.
