Spore Charger
“The Spore Charger. This one has fog traveling around it. It's constantly moving, so it's going to come right out of the fog and scare the lights out of you.
— Chris Brettman, Escalation of Freedom Announcement Trailer
The Spore Charger is a large Terminid and a variant of the Charger that emits a thick spore cloud around it, obscuring nearby objects similarly to a Spore Spewer.
Spawning
Spore Chargers can be first found on Suicide Mission, sharing a chance with Charger Behemoths to replace Chargers. Higher difficulties will increase this chance.
Like the Charger, Spore Chargers can spawn from Bug Breaches, patrolling the map with other Terminids, and guarding Objectives. They can also be found guarding heavy Bug Nests, Super Helldive's mega Nests, and Minor Places of Interest, where they can be sometimes found burrowed.
Behavior
Spore Chargers behave similarly to Chargers.
Upon death, Spore Chargers will cause a spore explosion, damaging any nearby entities, this doesn't always happen though. Spore Chargers are slightly more vulnerable compared to Chargers and Charger Behemoths, as its spore flesh can be damaged by any weapon, and it has less armor compared to the regular Chargers and Charger Behemoths. However, damaging it will only transfer 20% of the damage dealt to its main health.
Tactical Information
Spore Chargers can be dispatched with the same tactics used against Chargers.
- Since Spore Chargers will often explode on death, it is advised to stand as far as possible from them to avoid death or critical damage.
- Spore Chargers will not explode if they bleed out.
- A well placed G-123 Thermite can kill a Spore Charger relatively quickly, however, they can sometimes survive Thermite Grenades if they are thrown at certain parts of the legs and body.
- They have increased weak points, making them easier to damage then regular chargers.
- It's easy to tell when a Spore Charger is nearby due to the green spores it emits, but hard to pinpoint its exact location from a distance.
- The ping system can be used to mark it through the fog, facilitating the tracking of its position.
- Stratagems like the Orbital Railcannon Strike and Eagle 110mm Rocket Pods will automatically target the Spore Charger, as long as nothing larger is nearby.
