Termicide
The Termicide is a biological weapon invented by Super Earth in Helldivers 2. It is used in the Terminid Control System which uses towers to disperse the gas into the atmosphere, stopping the spread of Terminids closer towards Super Earth. The towers were built on the planets of the Umlaut Sector, which include Erata Prime, Fenrir III, Meridia, and Turing; together, they are known as the Barrier Planets.
By design, Termicide is meant to be lethal only to the Terminids, leaving any other living creature alive and unharmed. According to Strohmann News, there are reports that Termicide contributes to the extinction of some native species, but experts say that the benefits to the local ecology far outweigh the cost.[1]
Unfortunately, the Termicide caused Terminids to mutate and rapidly reproduce. The rapid changes to the Terminids allowed them to quickly corrupt the Terminid Control System towers, prompting Super Earth to send the Helldivers to deactivate them. One Barrier Planet, Meridia, experienced complete planetary corruption, transforming the volcanic jungle planet into a Supercolony. The Helldivers were otherwise successful in deactivating the towers on the other three planets in the Umlaut Sector, preventing any further corruption.
According to the Ship Master, the scientists behind the Termicide are "being interrogated for treason."[2]
Following the destruction of the Meridian Supercolony, Super Earth chemists began development of an improved, "even-more-perfectly-designed" Termicide 2.0[3].
