Terminid Research Preserve
The Terminid Research Preserve was a Super Earth planetary wide quarantine facility located on Acamar IV. It allowed Terminids to develop naturally, and was kept in check by a robust network of electrified fences. It was utilized by researchers at the Xenoentomology Center to obtain unlimited quantities of specimens for research.
It was destroyed from a security breach, causing mass invasions to nearby planets. After some of the invasions were contained, the Preserve was shut down.
Lore
“Past lessons learned from the failure of the Terminid Farms have been applied to guarantee the Preserve's security. The Terminid population is monitored at all times by SEAF Wardens, and encircled by electrical fencing above- and below-ground. And in the unlikely event of a containment breach, nuclear bombardments are set to automatically trigger. Excitingly, a small part of the Preserve has allocated to the new "Tyranny Park," where adventurous and well-paying citizens will be able to observe the Terminids in their natural environment. Some particularly bold patriots may even participate in a Big Tyrant Hunt. This exciting venture will both help fund future research, and deepen our citizens' understanding of the horrors of Tyranny.
— Major Order when the preserve was established
Estabilishment
The Terminid Research Preserve was established after Helldivers successfully completed the Establish Quarantine For Terminid Research Preserve Major Order by establishing a buffer zone across Crimsica, Turing, Darius II, Pandion-XXIV, and Gacrux. To prevent the Terminids from breaching the preserve as with the E-710 farms, the preserve would be continuously monitored by the SEAF 'Bug Wardens' unit, as well as aboveground and belowground electric fencing. A barrage of nuclear warheads would be automatically launched upon a catastrophic containment breach.
Humorously, a small part of the preserve was partially commercialized as "Tyranny Park", where wealthy Super Earth civilians could observe the Terminids in their natural environment, and even participate in trophy hunts against some of the larger Terminids.
Security Breach
“The Terminid Research Center has suffered a catastrophic security breach. A massive subterranean hive erupted underneath Tyranny Park, massacring visitors and staff. The cause is under investigation, but previous unresolved incursions into the planetary perimeter may have been a factor. The outbreak has spread to the surrounding planets, including the Xenoentomology Center on Turing. The Center has critical research data, and must be protected.
During the Activate and Protect the DSS Major Order, the Terminid Research Preserve suffered a catastrophic security breach, and the Terminids attacked all neighboring planets, including Turing and its Xenoentomology Center. Helldivers could only successfully defend Turing and all other planets used to establish the quarantine were lost.
Acamar IV would be liberated immediately following the MO's completion, however the Terminid Research Preserve was removed from the planet afterwards on 2024-11-20.
Trivia
- Within the Terminid Research Preserve, a location called “Tyranny Park”, was established for recreational usage/tourism for wealthier individuals. This is most likely a reference to the fictional park in the film, Jurassic Park, which is about a wildlife park that was created to de-extinct, and hold dinosaurs.
- Similar to the movie, a security failure causes a crisis, leading to a mass-breakout and all the housed creatures running loose.
- In the movie, all the dinosaurs remain trapped on the island, while the Helldivers 2 version has all the nearby planets being attacked by the Terminid breakout.
- Hints of the upcoming danger to the Preserve were first noticed on the Helldivers Companion App, as there was a small counter ticking up stating that everything was "fine". Although there was no dispatches that mentioned the potential danger, the name “Tyranny Park” being a part of its lore foreshadowed its eventual fate.
