Whack A Terminid
You can help by Please fill in the Overview, Gallery, and Trivia with additional info.
Whack A Terminid was a web-browser minigame made available during Liberty Day's 2025 celebration for the duration of the event. It was also made available for the Festival of Reckoning's 2025 celebration from December 23rd, 2025 to January 2nd, 2026.
Gameplay
Gameplay of Whack a Terminid is simple. Upon pressing "play", a grid of 8 Bug Holes appear on the screen arranged in a 2x4 shape. After a 3 second countdown, the white bar at the top of the field will begin to tick down. The game ends when this White Bar is completely empty.
Periodically, a Terminid will emerge from one of the holes, and stay there for a set amount of seconds. Clicking on that Terminid will make it retreat into the time while a "splat" sound is played. Points are then added to the player's total score along with more time, the amount differing depending on the difficulty.
Failing to click on a Terminid within a few seconds of it's appearance will instead deduct a set amount of seconds from the meter, but no score is lost.
Terminids spawn at different rates depending on the difficulty being played.
Occasionally, a still image of Craig Lee Thomas[1] cosplaying as a Helldiver will pop up through one of the holes instead of a Terminid, the chance of which increasing with the game's selected difficulty. Clicking on him will play the "Oh Sweet Liberty, Nooo!" sound byte from the opening movie of Helldivers 2, deduct the player's score, and remove a significant chunk of allotted time the players have.
The game has 5 difficulty options: Easy, Medium, Hard, Helldive and Super Helldive. The first four are immediately available to play. Super Helldive has to be unlocked separately while logged in.

Online Times
Whack a Terminid is not online all year around, only being up on special occasions.
- Whack-A-Terminid first begun when 2025's Liberty Day celebrations began, and ended once it concluded.
- Then, reinstated for the 2025's Festival of Reckoning celebrations on December 23rd, 2025, and ending on January 2nd, 2026.
If the link is visited at any time outside of the dates it's active on, they would instead be redirected to an invite to the main Helldivers discord server.
Super Helldive
Super Helldive is the hardest difficulty achievable in Whack-A-Terminid. This difficulty is hidden, but can be unlocked after completing a specific task.
It features a backdrop of Super Earth and the Meridian Black Hole from the Station-81 ARG.
Gameplay
- Super Helldive gameplay features a 6x3 grid of bug holes (a total of 18) across the screen.
Unlocking Super Helldive
In order to gain access to Super Helldive, begin a
Medium match of Whack-A-Terminid and play as usual.
Every now and then, a sound will play and on the lids of one of the bug holes, a green question mark will appear. Pressing it will make a blue number between 1 and 10 appear on the lid before disappearing, as well as making the green light of the bug hole turn blue. There can only be one number per bug hole and each number can only appear once.
Once all 8 of the question marks have been clicked on, any Terminids, John Helldiver(s) and Hellbomb(s) on-screen will disappear as the numbers are revealed once more.
Once the numbers reappear, it is imperative that they're memorized, taking a picture works too. Those numbers in that exact sequence will be your code to log into the Station-81 terminal.
After a few seconds, you will be transferred to a Station-81 terminal, where you will have exactly 30 seconds to input your code.
- Correct input will log you into the Station-81 terminal and change your difficulty to
Super Helldive
- Incorrect input will brand you a threat and kick you from the terminal (you'll have to start from scratch)
If you input the code correctly, you'll now have permanent access to Super Helldive.
Versions
V1.2.0.9 - FoR
During the Festival of Reckoning 2025 celebrations, the game would receive a festive makeover, featuring snow on the bottom and top of the screen, the Festival of Reckoning header as the main screen backdrop, the Festival of Reckoning name beneath the main title, and the sentence featured in the Festival of Reckoning 2025 announcement (Helldivers experiencing anything less than heartfelt elation or overwhelming patriotism towards the Festival of Reckoning should report to their nearest Democracy Officer immediately.)
It was also called "Simulation: Reckoning Experience", seen after either pressing on the settings button or after pressing the Escape key on a keyboard.
In-game, all the Terminids and John Helldiver would wear santa hats.
Helldive mode would also feature a jolly backdrop of a B-01 Tactical Helmet, along with a candle, fruits and a jolly leaf.
