The Rigel Sector is believed to be named after Rigel, a star that is part of the Orion constellation. This is notable because the Rigel Sector is not located near the Orion Sector. The Rigel Sector is also the only sector named after a single star, although the Xi Tauri Sector is named after a quadruple star system.
