Samples are resources obtained in missions and are used to permanently upgrade the Helldiver's Ship Modules.
Sample Types
There are three types of obtainable samples: Common, Rare, and Super. These Samples are capped at 500 for Common, 250 for Rare and 100 for Supers. You will need to spend 3,830 Common, 2,920 Rare, and 305 Super Samples to unlock all 30 Ship Modules.
Common
Common Samples have a green icon and may be found on any of the ten difficulty levels. When found in missions, they can be identified by the icon of a white circle split down the middle.

Rare
Rare Samples have an orange icon, and may be found on
Challenging difficulty or higher. When found in missions, they can be identified by the icon of a white square with the bottom-left corner split off. There are also undocumented Rare Samples found at Minor Places of Interest, specifically inside Pods, Containers, and Bunkers. Undocumented Rare Samples do not count towards the Sample Counter on the top right corner HUD during a mission.
Super

Super Samples, also known as Super Uranium, have a pink icon, and may be found on
Extreme difficulty or higher. When found in missions, they can be identified by the icon of four white squares. They always appear as a pool of liquid metal on the ground, with a hovering blob above it.

Super Samples are exclusively found at Super Sample Rocks; a rock vaguely resembling a chicken drumstick with silvery veins. This rock may rarely spawn below Extreme difficulty without Super Samples, but on Extreme and above, it is guaranteed to appear and always contains them. Experienced Helldivers can quickly spot this rock on the minimap. There is a similar-looking rock on Terminid missions that do not contain Super Samples, only Supplies. The number of Super Samples varies based on the difficulty:
- Extreme: 2-3
- Suicide Mission: 3-4
- Impossible: 5
- Helldive: 6
- Super Helldive: 7

- These numbers only apply to "Expedition / Non-Defense"-type of missions. "Eradication"-maps have layout-tied 10-15-Common Samples being placed. "Evacuation"-Defense-maps have no samples.
- The number of spawned samples also are highly reliant on the type of architecture and non-SEAF-structured spawned. E.G. At the moment by average the Terminid-missions has the lowest number of samples placed.
- Rare-sample count in missions can however exceed the "in the wild"-count depending how many of these were placed within Minor Places Of Interest (mPOI) special-loot containers. E.G. final amount being 46/40-rare samples in a Super Helldive-map.
Notes
- There is one achievement associated with Common Samples: 'Science is done by quantity' awarded for extracting with 15 Common Samples from a single mission.
- There is one achievement associated with Rare Samples: 'Samples are a diver's best friend' awarded for extracting with 15 Rare Samples from a single mission.
