Lore
Interstellar Terminid Spore Cloud Phenomenon
Super Earth High Command received SEAF reports of a Terminid invasion on Socorro III that brought new Terminid variants, quickly overwhelming the SEAF stationed on the planet. In addition, a mysterious, interstellar spore cloud of Terminid origin surrounded the planet. High Command blamed its presence for the invasion on Socorro III, as well as the new, and potentially fake, Terminid variants. The Helldivers were ordered to eradicate 500 million Terminids on Socorro III and push onto the nearby planets of Esker and Bore Rock to establish a quarantine barrier, in an attempt to stop the spread of the rumored variants.
The Helldivers were successfully able to complete the Major Order, though High Command still remained concerned of the continuous spread of the interstellar spore cloud, now known as The Gloom. It was discovered that spores on Socorro III originated from The Gloom, potentially proving its responsibility for the new Terminid variants.
