Culling Terminids or Procuring the Orbital Napalm Barrage

Tarsh, along with Mastia, were key in the creation of the stratagem. The Automaton manufactories on the two planets were producing polystyrene foam required for napalm. The Helldivers were sent by Super Earth High Command to liberate the planets and retrieve the foam. However, medium-sized Terminid population had soared beyond manageable levels. Under a Major Order, the Helldivers needed to make a decision on what to prioritize; the culling of 45 million Bile Spewers and 100 million Warriors, or the Orbital Napalm Barrage.

The Helldivers ultimately liberated Mastia, followed by Tarsh, immediately providing the Helldivers access to the Orbital Napalm Barrage. Despite their new stratagem, they were unable to cull enough Bile Spewers and Warriors to complete the Major Order, causing Terminid outbreaks and extended work hours for all citizens of classification B and below.

Democracy Space Station Logistics Hub

To construct the Democracy Space Station, the Helldivers were ordered to liberate either Gaellivare or Clasa. Upon the successful liberation of Gaellivare, Super Earth immediately began construction on the Democracy Space Station in Gaellivare's orbit. A DSS Logistics Hub was built on Tarsh to plan and support the construction.

Automaton Attacks

During Phase 1 of the DSS's construction, where Helldivers were ordered to liberate Turing for the new Xenoentomology Center, the Automatons attacked Mastia from Shelt. However, the Helldivers liberated Shelt in time to prevent Mastia's fall. High Command reported that they intended to cut off the Logistics Hub to the DSS. At this time, the Automatons would still be unaware of the full scale of the DSS's potential capabilities.

After Helldivers successfully defended the newly-established Deep Mantle Forge Complex, the Automatons launched a cyberattack on the Logistics Hub's servers, stealing an unknown amount of information before the servers were quarantined.

Jet Brigade Assault on the DSS

The Jet Brigade would eventually mobilize to move through the Marspira Sector towards the DSS. Tarsh was the first planet to fall on their warpath, opening the way to Mastia. The DSS Logistics Hub would be destroyed, although the loss was non-vital as it had, by then, served its purpose. Nevertheless, the Automatons now had concrete proof of the DSS' location on Gaellivare.

The FREEDOM Act & the Center for Citizen Surveillance & Study

Following a swath of ruinous attacks by the Illuminate, the Ministry of Unity would enact the Freedom & Readiness to Enable Effective Defense & Obstruction of Mind-Influence Act of 2184, or FREEDOM Act. Part of this new act involved the creation of a new security force that would enforce loyalty, act against threats of mind control and generally enhance security all around the Super Earth Federation.

Mastia was chosen as the headquarters of this new force, with a Center for Citizen Surveillance & Study scheduled for construction. The liberation of Tarsh was necessary in order to establish a defensive perimeter around the CCSS. Furthermore, this would, at least for the time being, nullify Automaton presence in the Marspira Sector.

Terrain

Teeming with the odor of wet mud, rotting bark and corpses, Tarsh is a vile swamp world. A thick humid miasma of never-ending fog prevents accurate visibility, as large trees and their twisting roots create walls across the landscape, causing unreliable navigation. The lowest grounds give way to muddy swamps with water dividing the passable terrain, while rainstorms come and go overhead.

The most dangerous portions of Tarsh feature explosive mounds spewing highly flammable gas that can ignited with gunfire, leading to sudden wildfires that break out in the surrounding area, only put out once all the gas is burnt up.
