Extreme Cold is an environmental effect that is always active on many planets, and conditionally activated based on time of day and weather conditions on others.
Effects:
- Rate of fire is reduced by about 10%.
- Heat-based weapons lose heat faster, contrary to the in-game description stating that it delays heat buildup. For instance, the LAS-98 Laser Cannon's heat sink normally takes 15 seconds to completely cool off. Extreme Cold makes it take 33% less time (10 seconds). The same percentage change is applied to all heat-based weapons' cool-off duration.
