The Gloom
The Gloom is an interstellar Terminid spore cloud that encompasses several star systems. Though the purpose of the cloud is unknown, this unnatural phenomenon continuously grows, obscuring galactic map intelligence.
Further developments revealed that any vessels that enter this spore cloud, either manned or unmanned, loses radio contact within minutes of entering it. Any attempt to reestablish contact with them is futile, leaving High Command currently unsure how to combat it.
Lore
The Gloom is an interstellar spore cloud created by the Terminids. While its purpose is currently unknown to Super Earth scientists, its effects are felt as it obscures interstellar optics, reducing visibility to planets completely encompassed by it.
It's presence was a minor in the beginning of August, but this spore cloud quickly grew in magnitude, enveloping entire planets with its presence, preventing Super Earth from gaining any intelligence from those planets. Due to this, Super Earth cannot proactively scan for threats until it is too late and is attacking Super Earth colonies.
Timeline
- August 6th, 2024 - A strange spore cloud was noticed in Terminid space. High Command alerted Helldivers of the cloud, though Command chose to monitor it for further analysis.
- August 10th, 2024 - With the Terminid Major Order completed, High Command officially called the interstellar spore cloud The Gloom. Further analysis would have to be done, though High Command issued further orders to defend planets nearby The Gloom in case of increased Terminid incursion.
- In the following days, planets would be fully encompassed by the Gloom and be obscured to SE Intelligence. By order of planets that have been completely covered by the Gloom, they are Diaspora X, Omicron, Epsilon Phoencis VI, Zagon Prime, Oshaune, Enuliale, Gemstone Bluffs, Nabatea Secundus, Navi VII, Azur Secundus, Erson Sands, Nivel 43, Hellmire, Fori Prime.
- August 27th, 2024 - After the completion of the Eradicate Terminids to Slow the Gloom Major Order, while the spread of the Gloom was slowed by the actions of the Helldivers, the entirety of the L'estrade Sector and Mirin Sector became completely enveloped by the Gloom.
Trivia
- The Gloom is the first map visual that showcases the actions of one of our enemies. While other planets have been altered on the map, either through our actions or our enemies, this is the first time a visual is so pronounced to onlooking Helldivers.
- With it covering the map, the completely covered planets cannot be hovered over on the Galactic Map, as if there is no planets in that area of the map.
