Malevelon Creek is a Planet in Helldivers 2. It is one of five planets that reside within the Severin Sector. Its landscape generally consists of lush foreign jungles and wide ponds. According to major orders, the Automatons want to capture and hold Malevelon Creek for its rich rhodium deposits.

Story

Second Galactic War

Note: This section uses real-world dates. These do not reflect the time period in which the story of Helldivers 2 takes place. In-game events are not dated, and in-game time may not elapse in real-world time.

Upon the release of Helldivers 2 on 8 February 2024—the beginning of the Second Galactic War—the Severin Sector was already under Automaton control. At that time, Malevelon Creek was one of the only Automaton-controlled planets the Helldivers could operate on.

Major orders in February 2024 were focused on liberating Terminid planets, and Automaton-related orders were only defensive. Because of this, the few Helldivers who chose to fight on Malevelon Creek were too outnumbered to fully liberate the planet. However, a significant number kept trying. On 27 February, a retreat order was issued, and Helldivers could no longer begin missions on Malevelon Creek.

Operation Valiant Enclosure de facto concluded in March 2024. Shortly thereafter, Operation Swift Disassembly began, with the goal of liberating all Automaton-controlled planets and eradicating the Automatons entirely. On 1 April 2024, major order "Liberation of Malevelon Creek" was issued, and with the help of Helldivers who had been busy fighting Terminids, the planet was liberated within hours.

On 3 April 2024, the President of Super Earth officially recognized the day as Malevelon Creek Memorial Day. All Helldivers were issued a commemorative cape, the Fallen Hero's Vengeance, in remembrance of those who gave their lives in liberating and controlling Malevelon Creek.

In the Helldivers 2 community

As one of the first Automaton-controlled planets accessible to players, Malevelon Creek became the subject of community memes. Players in February 2024 compared Malevelon Creek to United States soldiers' experiences in the Vietnam War, due to its difficulty, its jungle setting, and the wasted time and effort that was spent fighting on it.

In February 2024, many other players were frustrated that Malevelon Creek players were not contributing to Terminid-related major orders. This may have led some to keep fighting on Malevelon Creek out of stubbornness, or to protest others telling them how they ought to play. The 27 February retreat order built up anticipation for the planet's return, and "take back the Creek!" image macros and copypastas were very common in Helldivers 2 fan communities in March 2024. Malevelon Creek Memorial Day is likely a reference to this meme.

Trivia

• Rhodium (Rh) has very few military applications, and is mostly used to reduce pollution from internal combustion engines, and in the production of jewelry. This suggests that in-game text about the Automatons wanting Malevelon Creek's rhodium is propaganda (or that their interest in the planet is harmless).
• A small group of people like to misspell it as "Malevolent Creek"
