Super Destroyer
Super Destroyers are a class of military spacecraft manufactured and operated by Super Earth.
Overview
Each Super Destroyer holds an unknown, but vast, number of Helldivers in cryonic storage, each of whom is granted full control of the Super Destroyer after being thawed.
The Super Destroyer is a relatively small combat vessel, approximately 170 meters long and 80 meters wide.
Each Super Destroyer has around fifty visible non-Helldivers on board at any given moment.
Super Destroyers are the Helldivers' forward operating bases as they complete their Missions. Each Super Destroyer is equipped with an Alcubierre Drive which is fueled by Element-710, and allows the ship to travel between star systems in seconds. Super Destroyers provide orbital fire support, as well as equipment packages and Eagle close air support used by Helldivers.
Gameplay
The Super Destroyer is a player's base of operations; it's where they plan missions, buy upgrades, buy new stratagems, customize their Helldiver, select their loadout, and play Stratagem Hero.
When in a mission, the Super Destroyer provides support in the form of Stratagems. After the mission's timer (12 minutes for blitz missions, 15 minutes for eradicate missions, 25 minutes for defense missions, and 40 minutes for standard missions) has run out, the Super Destroyer will leave low orbit, deploying an emergency extraction shuttle and providing no more Stratagem support or reinforcements.
If any Helldiver is branded as a traitor, the Super Destroyer will bombard the traitor until they perish. Common examples of traitorous branding including leaving the active mission area or executing a significant number of citizens.
Interior
It is made up of three modules: The Bridge, the Main Hall and the Hangar.
Bridge
In the center of the Bridge, the Democracy Officer can be found next to the Galactic War Table. On the aforementioned table is where Missions are selected by the active Helldiver.
On the starboard side, a group of technicians work on computers, whilst being overseen by a (presumably) higher-ranking officer.
Past a small stairwell, the Hellpods can be found. Once a Mission is chosen by the active Helldiver, they are able to be entered.
There is a large window, where the planet the Super Destroyer is currently orbiting is visible, alongside the many Orbital Cannons the Super Destroyer is equipped with.
Main Hall
The Main Hall of the Super Destroyer is equipped with Ship Modules, a Workshop, a Hellpod/Helldiver Storage, Hellpod Launchers, and is populated by a few NPCs. Namely:
Hangar
At its first form, without any upgrades, it has the Eagle-1 Ship, along with the Pelican-1, the Hangar is at the back of the ship. It also has a few NPCs, but they are inaccessible and have no dialogue.
Trivia
- It is stated multiple times in-game that the Super Destroyer is in "low orbit" before and during a mission; however, the atmospheric scattering present at the Super Destroyer's altitude (as well as its total lack of horizontal motion) suggests it is actually floating stationary in the planet's upper atmosphere.
- In-game testing based on the Orbital Precision Strike's call-in time and projectile speed suggests that the Super Destroyer is at ~1,080 meters altitude during missions. This is about 3,500 feet, around 1/10th the cruising altitude of a commercial airliner and far below the 100 km limit for what counts as "outer space."
- One potential (perhaps most-likely) explanation for this discrepancy is corruption of language over time; in the Helldivers timeline, the term "orbit" eventually becomes synonymous with simply floating above a planet's surface using whatever technology allows the Super Destroyers to counteract gravity.
- The Super Destroyer is also known as the Class 6 Series Crewed Interplanetary Combat Vessel.
- Following the efforts of the Helldivers in saving the very sick children of Super Citizen Anne's Hospital for Very Sick Children on Vernen Wells - giving up the chance to acquire MD-17 Anti-Tank Mines for a third time - The Helldivers recieved a touching token of their gratitude, a hand-drawn thank you note, proudly displayed on the side of the console just beside the cryonic storage units.
