The LAS-98 Laser Cannon is a heat-based support weapon that fires a sustained beam of energy at your target. Rather than using magazines of ammunition, the Laser Cannon slowly heats up its heat sink while being fired. The heat sink will slowly cool down automatically when not firing, effectively giving the Helldiver infinite ammo if the weapon is fired judiciously.

Tactical Information
- An Ammo Box will restore 1 reserve heat sink, as will a Resupply crate.
- At base it takes 15 seconds to fully cool down from 99% overheat.
- The Laser Cannon takes 33% longer to cool down on planets that are hot (20 seconds instead 15), and 33% shorter on planets that are cold (10 seconds instead of 15).
- The Laser Cannon will let out a loud buzzing sound just before it overheats, acting as a warning to stop firing or else it will overheat.
- If the weapon does overheat, you'll have to change heat sinks, which causes the Helldiver to kneel down and stop moving during the 4-second animation.
- Aiming down sights allows for precise aim, making it much easier to hit tiny weak points, like bot heads or Hulk visors.
- The Laser Cannon can be used to knock down most fences and open steel-doored containers without having to use an explosive, making it quite versatile.
- The Laser Cannon can destroy some medium-sized targets such as Automaton Mortars.
- The Laser Canon will cool down while the weapon is holstered.
- The hitscan nature of the Laser Cannon renders it highly effective at destroying the thrusters of Gunships and the wings of Shriekers.
- It can destroy a Hulk fairly easily if trained on its visor for a few seconds, making it a very capable counter to them.
- To make it easier, you can use EMS weaponry such as the Orbital EMS strike, EMS Mortar Sentry, G-23 Stun grenade and the SEAF Artillery Static field to render the Hulk a sitting duck.
- Combining the Laser Cannon with another LAS weapon such as the LAS-5 Scythe or LAS-16 Sickle can grant the Helldiver incredible Ammo economy by switching in-between the weapons during cooldown.
- Reloading the Laser Cannon is faster than waiting for the cooldown. So don't be afraid to overheat the weapon if in a pinch.
- The Laser Canon cannot destroy Bug Holes or Bot Fabricators. Keep this in mind when picking stratagems and weaponry.
Trivia
- Like other beam weapons such as the LAS-5 Scythe and LAS-7 Dagger, the Laser Cannon is hitscan.
