The Detector Tower is an Optional Objective contained within an Automaton structure. For as long as it is standing, it will seek hostiles and, if it detects any, will call bot drop(s) on them. To complete the Objective, Helldivers must destroy the structure. There are also Samples scattered within the zone itself.
Objective Steps
- Destroy Automaton Detector Tower
- Helldivers must approach and destroy the Detector Tower.
- Reward:
200 Requisition Slips,
50 Experience.
Tactical Information
- Anything with demolition force of 50 is enough destroy a Detector Tower.
- By default, Helldivers are authorized to call-in a Hellbomb when they are within 30-meters of the Detector Tower. A Hellbomb anywhere within 27-meters will be able to demolish a Detector Tower even with a wall of rock between the Hellbomb and the Detector Tower.
- Other alternatives for destroying the tower include all SEAF Artillery shells (Napalm, Smoke and Static need to be a direct hit), Orbital Gas Strike (Direct Hit), Orbital Precision Strike, Orbital Laser, 120mm, 380mm & Walking Barrages, Eagle 500kg Bomb, or B-100 Portable Hellbomb.
- The Orbital Laser does not track into the tower itself due to being a structure without health-points / cannot be fatally wounded: The stratagem ball needs to be placed in a location relative to the Super Destroyer that ensures the laser will strike the tower prior to engaging enemies.
- The detection range of the tower is 150 metres. It continuously rotates and scans the environment, detecting any Helldivers and active Hellpod-stratagems within its vision cone.
- If the tower detects a Helldiver, its red eye will begin blinking and switch to an alarm state (with an audio cue), summoning bot drops for as long as it continues to detect a threat.
- The dropships will deploy their units at the last known position of the detected Helldiver or a Hellpod-stratagem such as A/MLS-4X Rocket Sentry.
- It is recommended to always approach the tower from a blind spot to avoid detection for as long as possible.
- The visual detection cone has a minimum height-angle and cannot detect Helldivers in very close proximity.
- Going prone prevents detection while the tower is facing the player's direction. Once the tower turns away, the player can safely continue their approach.
- The tower’s iconic shape and glowing red eye are easily visible across the map.
- A Helldiver, who is about to alert a Detector Tower, can attempt to quickly dive to the ground on hopes of preventing the alarm from triggering, as the tower requires a brief moment to identify the Helldiver.
- A special variant of the Detector Tower appears exclusively on Super Helldive difficulty as part of the Fortress. This is the only variant that does not offer the option to call down a Hellbomb, and it does not need to be destroyed to complete the Fortress side objective.
Trivia
- Due to the Tower's distinctive appearance, it is often colloquially referred to as the 'Eye of Sauron' by many Helldivers.
- Detector Towers can be used to farm Automaton kills for Major Orders, as their alarm state bypasses the global cooldown of bot flares, allowing a constant stream of incoming Dropships.
