A vast network of underground hives has allowed the Terminids in this region to become entrenched, breeding and swelling in number.
Fortunately, this hive has just gone into a brief hibernation. Infiltrate, and destroy all you can before the Terminids return to full strength.

— Mission Briefing - Blitz: Search and Destroy

A Bug Nest is a Terminid structure and Optional Objective. They contain a number of Bug Holes which will periodically create Terminids of various types depending on the difficulty of the mission. To complete this Optional Objective, Helldivers must destroy all Bug Holes, after which Terminids will cease to spawn from them.

Contents

Inside a Bug Nest, Helldivers will find Bug Holes, Samples, and sometimes even a Malfunctioning Hellpod, containing either a backpack or a support weapon. Additionally, Mutated Eggs may sometimes appear in Terminid Mega Nests, found only on Super Helldive Difficulty Icon.pngSuper Helldive. Extracting with a Mutated Egg rewards 2 Super Samples and 4 Rare Samples.

Optional Objective

While in the proximity of a Bug Nest, Helldivers may optionally destroy Bug Holes. When a Helldiver enters a Bug Nest, they will call out that they have discovered a Nest, marking it on all Helldivers' maps (if it was not marked already). Successfully destroying Bug Nests rewards Helldivers with XP.png Experience and Requisition Slip.svg Requisition Slips at the end of a mission, depending on the size of the nest.

Tactical Information

Locations

  • The approximate location of Bug Nests may also be found on the minimap via red marked spots.
    • The area surrounding the Bug Nest will be denoted by a green and orange fog.
  • When approaching a nest, there will be a large number of undisturbed Terminids roaming within it.
    • Upon noticing a Helldiver, these Terminids will immediately attempt to call a Bug Breach and the Bug Holes will begin producing additional reinforcements.

Destroying Nests

  • Nests are considered destroyed when all Bug Holes within them are destroyed. These holes can be destroyed by getting an explosive such as a Grenade into the hole.
    • Fast-firing explosive weaponry such as the GL-21 Grenade Launcher, AC-8 Autocannon, and CB-9 Exploding Crossbow are extremely effective at destroying Bug Holes from a safe distance.
    • Stratagems with a Demolition Force of 40 or higher can destroy Bug Holes from the outside, removing the need for an explosive to enter the inner section.
    • The Eagle 500kg Bomb and Orbital Laser are particularly effective at achieving this due to their high Demolition force and large radius, with the latter able to move between Bug Holes and clear even Heavy Nests with a single use.
  • It is recommended that Helldivers focus on destroying Bug Holes first while dodging enemy Terminds, as to prevent further reinforcements from spawning.
  • The destruction of half of the Bug Nests in the entire Mission Area will cause an increase of patrol spawns.
    • Helldivers are advised to weigh the potential pros and cons of clearing a nest in proximity of their location vs having more patrol spawns during their mission in higher difficulties.
  • Heavy Bug Nests are often bowl-shaped and can be hard to escape from quickly, it is recommended that Helldivers remember an easy exit if they become overwhelmed.

Variants

Nest Size Amounts of Nests
Light 1 - 3
Medium 4 - 5
Heavy 3 - 10
Mega 11 - 14

Alternatively, a Hellpod and GP-31 Ultimatum can be also used to close these Bile Titan Holes.

  • Heavy Nests that only contain 3 Bug Holes will typically have a Heavy Enemy (i.e. Charger) already spawned in when a Helldiver approaches the Nest.
