Trooper
“Troopers are little more than guns with legs, base caricatures of consciousness fused to machine guns and rocket launchers. Unlike Super Earth, the bots seem to believe that strapping heavy weaponry to expendable cannon fodder is the solution to every problem.
— Helldivers 2 PlayStation Store Page
The Trooper, or the Raider, is a light Automaton equipped with a fusion rifle.
Spawning
Troopers can be found on all difficulties. They can spawn from Bot Drops, within patrols, guarding Automaton Outposts and Objectives, or from Automaton Fabricators. They are more likely to be replaced by more dangerous light Automatons, such as the Rocket Raider and MG Raider, on higher difficulties.
If a planet is invaded by the Jet Brigade, Troopers will begin being replaced by their Jet Brigade variant on
Medium.
If a planet is invaded by the Incineration Corps, Troopers will begin being equipped with an energy cannon on
Challenging.
Starting on Challenging, they can be found guarding Minor Places of Interest.
Behavior
Troopers and Raiders will fire their fusion rifle in five-round bursts if a Helldiver is in its line of sight. They take four seconds to cool their fusion rifle before firing again. Troopers and Raiders will keep some distance from Helldivers, backing up if they approach, and punching them if they are too close. If a Helldiver is behind cover, Troopers and Raiders will toss a grenade. If it is being suppressed by gunfire, it will erratically move its rifle, significantly reducing its accuracy.
When alerted to a Helldiver's presence, Troopers can fire a flare to call in a Bot Drop.
Its Jet Brigade variant can utilize a jump pack, allowing it to constantly close the distance between it and a Helldiver.
Its Incineration Corps variant's energy cannon deals significant damage to a Helldiver, and can trip them if it near-misses or hits. However, they fire slowly and inaccurately, even when not suppressed. On
Medium and lower, they can toss incendiary grenades.

Tactical Information
Troopers/Raiders
- Troopers and Raiders appear to be the same unit. Pinging light infantry Automaton that look like Troopers may be labeled as Raiders instead.
Light Automatons
- All light Automatons are equipped with a hidden flare launcher in their left arm, which can be used to call in Bot Drops.
- Destroying them before it can finish launching the flare will prevent a Bot Drop from being called in.
- Grenades and headshots will reliably one-shot all light Automatons.
Trivia
- According to early concept art, the Trooper was originally named the "Conscript". Its first iteration had a much blocker appearance and a dark green color scheme. The second iteration has a more human like appearance and is armed with a rifle that resembles the FG 42.
- The patch notes, such as 1.001.104, occasionally reference all light Automatons as Conscripts.
