A laser pistol that fires a continuous beam. Does not require ammo but can overheat and need to change batteries.

The LAS-7 Dagger is an Energy-Based laser pistol with infinite ammo. The only limitation of this is heat buildup. So long as a heat sink is not completely overheated, it will cool over time.

Tactical Information

  • The weapon comes with 3 reserve heatsinks, but with good heat management, Helldivers should never run out of ammo.
    • This heat sink is less effective on hot planets and more effective on cold planets. It takes approximately 11 seconds to cool completely from 99% heat on hot planets, and approximately 6 seconds on cold planets.
    • Heat sinks dissipate heat even when the weapon is holstered. It will only cease to do this if the heat sink is completely overheated and must be replaced.
  • As with other beam weapons, the Dagger trades instantaneous damage for its ability to sustain damage output for long periods.
    • Prolonged exposure to the beam can set targets on fire, further boosting the damage-over-time effect.
    • This tradeoff makes it unsuitable for stopping Observers or Troopers that are about to fire a flare to call reinforcements.
  • The One Handed trait means it can be used while holding items like the SSSD Hard Drive or the Ballistic Shield.
    • Being a One Handed beam weapon makes the Dagger very forgiving to fire while running. It can serve as a side-grade from the "Guard Dog" Rover in this capacity, exchanging steady, autonomous targeting for an unoccupied backpack slot.
  • The Dagger is an excellent utility weapon to quickly remove Environmental Hazards from a considerable distance. Any contact with the beam will detonate Automaton (or Helldiver) mines and destroy various hazardous flora, allowing the user to sweep their crosshair across a problem area and avoid an embarrassing accident later.

Trivia

  • Prior to patch 1.003.104, beam weapons such as this were capable of detonating the backpacks of Automaton Assault Raiders and MG Raiders with the same ease that they can destroy Environmental Hazards.
    • This change coincided with the introduction of heavier Jet Brigade units, and was presumably made to avoid trivializing the lighter Jet Brigade enemies.
