Tactical Information

  • The primary use of the Exploding Crossbow is to inflict significant damage to a single target while also dealing explosive damage in a radius around the impact point. This makes it a flexible weapon that can deal heavy damage to a single target or significant splash damage in an area.
    • The explosive bolts fired by this weapon have a relatively slow travel speed and are greatly affected by gravity, making it difficult to use against distant targets. Practice is required to get accustomed to its arc.
    • Because it is a Primary Weapon with a very low rate of fire and small magazine, equipping the Exploding Crossbow means that the wielder must rely on the Secondary or Support Weapon in the event that a rapid fire option is required. Weapons like the Redeemer or Stalwart can fill this role.
  • The exploding bolts fired by the Exploding Crossbow are highly flexible, capable of dealing with many battlefield threats.
    • The crossbow bolt itself inflicts high damage, and when combined with the subsequent explosion can deal significant damage to targets with light armor. As such, the weapon excels at destroying lone enemies not protected by medium armor or stronger.
    • The exploding tips give the weapon a damage profile similar to the Impact Grenade even if it does not directly impact a target. As such, it can be aimed into clusters of enemies to inflict powerful splash damage to multiple targets.
  • The Exploding Crossbow possesses several traits that make it a strong utility weapon.
    • Uniquely, because it fires crossbow bolts, this weapon has a very low sound signature, only alerting enemies within 10 meters of the wielder that it has been fired. This gives it stealth applications that other weapons do not have.
    • It is also the only non-Submachine Gun primary weapon with the One Handed trait. This not only allows it to be paired with the Ballistic Shield, but also allows the wielder to carry secondary objective objects like the SSSD Hard Drive or the Confidential Data or Mutated Egg from a Super Helldive large outpost.
    • The exploding tips of the bolts allow them to destroy enemy spawners, making it extremely useful when dispatching Bug Nests or Automaton Outposts. The weapon's semi-auto nature and generous magazine supply are well-suited to this task, as misses at long distance can be easily corrected and even Heavy Bug Nests can be cleared using this weapon alone.
  • Like other explosive weapons, the Exploding Crossbow can pose significant harm to the wielder if used up-close. It can be helpful to switch to a different weapon if enemies get too close for comfort.
