Tactical Information

  • Eruptor excels at delivering devastating area damage with each shot but suffers from a very low firing rate and limited ammo capacity.
    • Each shot inflicts three types of damage: direct impact, an explosive blast, and shrapnel.
    • The weapon’s bolt must be manually cycled between shots, making it one of the slowest-firing weapons in the game, aside from anti-tank weaponry.
    • With a five-round magazine and six spare magazines, Eruptor has a total of only 35 rounds. Every shot must count, making Secondary and Support Weapon choices crucial. The Siege-Ready passive can be beneficial, as it increases spare magazine capacity and improves reload speed.
  • The jet-assisted rounds of Eruptor are highly versatile, capable of dealing both heavy single-target and area damage.
    • Tough enemies take damage from the projectile impact, explosion, and shrapnel. This combined damage can eliminate most medium-sized enemies in one or two shots, depending on shrapnel distribution and the target's explosion resistance.
      • Shrapnel makes the Eruptor especially useful against specific unarmored Illuminate targets, such as Fleshmobs and large energy shields like those used by Harvesters.
    • Groups of small enemies are highly vulnerable, as they are hit by both the explosion and shrapnel. This is especially effective against Terminids, allowing a single shot to wipe out a patrol of Pouncers and Bile Spitters. It also excels at clearing Bug Breaches and destroying the underside of a Dropship during a Bot Drop.
      • Note that a Dropship is fully covered in Armor AV5 Icon.png Tank I armor, so they themselves cannot be damaged by Eruptor in any way.
    • A Gunship can be downed within two shots by targeting one of the engines.
    • The explosive power of Eruptor makes it effective against mission objectives. A single round can destroy a Bug Hole, simplifying the clearing of Bug Nests and Stalker Lairs. It can also eliminate Automaton Fabricators and Bulk Fabricators by hitting their exhaust vents and take down Broadcast Towers in one shot. Spore Spewers and Shrieker Nests require as few as three shots.
  • By default, Eruptor comes with a 10x Sniper Scope.
    • Eruptor performs best at long ranges by sending its explosive rounds at targets that are unaware of the wielder's presence, acting as a grenade sniper. This is important both for keeping targets at arm's length, as well as before their pursuit and evasive movements scatters them such that fewer can be caught within the explosive and shrapnel radius.
    • Beware that Eruptor has one-second lifetime with maximum range of approximately 180 meters after which rounds will automatically explode. This prevents the weapon from sniping targets at extreme ranges but is generally not an issue since engaging targets at ranges greater than 40-50 meters already grants it a strong tactical advantage.
    • The scope is particularly useful for destroying enemy spawners from safety. Standing on the outer rim of a Bug Nest and shooting Bug Holes while circulating around the perimeter can clear it without ever stepping foot inside, while getting a clean angle on a Fabricator's front can destroy it without engaging any of the enemies within a Bot Outpost.
  • Due to a combination of factors, Eruptor fares very poorly at close range.
    • Identically to the bolts of the CB-9 Exploding Crossbow, the bolts of the Eruptor will also "skip" alongside flat surfaces if the bolts are not making contact at a perpendicular angle, leading to the undershot bolts sliding past and exploding too far behind its intended targets.
    • Because of the explosion and shrapnel dealt at the point of impact, players can easily inflict enough damage to kill themselves by shooting at nearby targets. Care should also be taken when attempting to support teammates with Eruptor fire as the explosion and shrapnel can easily inflict friendly fire under the wrong circumstances.
      • A reliable Secondary Weapon or rapid-fire Support Weapon is recommended to deal with enemies at close range. Pistols like the P-113 Verdict can quickly dispatch individual targets, while machine guns like the MG-43 Machine Gun or M-105 Stalwart combine reliability with staying power.
      • A drone backpack like the AX/AR-23 "Guard Dog" or AX/LAS-5 "Guard Dog" Rover is also very useful, providing automatic overwatch and quickly killing most small enemies before they become a problem.
      • The ergonomics of Eruptor are notoriously poor as it possesses significant weapon drag. This makes it cumbersome to use when trying to quickly shift aim, which negatively impacts the wielder's ability to quickly acquire targets, especially at closer ranges.
        • The Peak Physique armor passive increases ergo by 30.
        • Utilizing Iron Sights and an Angled Foregrip can be very helpful in alleviating this characteristic of the weapon which increases ergo from 11 to 35.
    • The weapon's low rate of fire makes it very difficult to place successive rounds on target. Each shot should be deliberately placed for maximum effect, and it is difficult to make such judgment calls in the middle of a combat melee.
    • Tactical reloads are best done when only one round is left in the weapon. Due to the weapon's small combat load, every single shot is extremely valuable, so leaving rounds in the discarded magazine is very wasteful. Each shot has the potential to destroy an enemy spawner, or kill groups of enemies.
