A Modified Punisher shotgun firing heavy, high-damage slugs. Perfect for punching holes in big targets.

— Armory Description

The SG-8S Slugger is a shotgun that fires slugs, as opposed to buckshot. This means the shotgun acts more like a rifle, firing a single projectile per trigger pull. The slugs have medium armor penetration, and are able to pierce the armor on Hive Guards, Bile Spewers, and Devastators.

Tactical Information

  • The Slugger can hold 16 shells in its magazine, and carriers up to 60 reserve shells, for a total combat load of 76 shells.
  • An Ammo box restores 30 reserve shells, and a Resupply box restores 60.
  • Unlike most other weapons, the SG-8S Slugger reloads one shell at a time, rather than reloading by magazine. This has advantages and disadvantages:
    • It takes 7 seconds to reload the entire 16 shell magazine.
    • Reloading can safely be done at any point, as there is no danger of wasting ammo by throwing away a partially filled magazine.
    • The reloading process may be interrupted at any time without losing any progress by firing the shotgun, switching weapons, diving, or interacting with any item. It will be ready to fire as long as it has 1 shell loaded.
    • Reloading any time the gun isn't being shot with will ensure that Helldivers will never run the tube empty.
  • The Slugger's slugs cause stagger.
  • Due to its medium armor penetration and high damage, it is excellent at dispatching up to a medium amount of low to medium threats.
  • Because of its low rate of fire (just under 1 shot per second), it's recommended to bring alternative weapons that can handle crowds of smaller enemies, like the MG-43 Machine Gun or AX/LAS-5 "Guard Dog" Rover. Though with good accuracy, it's still a somewhat decent horde-clearer.
  • While the First Person View, also known as ADS (Aim Down Sights), is useful for long range precision shots, the third person view is recommended for close range encounters due to the superior handling.
  • Shots can penetrate through a single light-armored body part, allowing for multiple kills with one shot to be possible.

Trivia

  • The SG-8S Slugger has a unique reloading animation, where the Helldiver can be seen loading shells into the magazine from the left- and right-side bandoleers attached to the shotgun. This can also be seen in first-person.
