Tactical Information
- The MD-17 deploys fewer mines over the same area as its counterparts. 6 salvos of 3 mines are deployed, totaling up to 18 Anti-Tank mines if the deploying mechanism completes it's distribution without being destroyed prematurely. It makes up for this with much greater damage and area-of-effect that can damage
Anti-Tank I armor.
- Unlike the MD-6, MD-I4, and MD-8 minefields, the MD-17 Anti-Tank mines do not trigger on most enemies, and can be safely walked over by Helldivers. Instead, they are only triggered by heavy units.
- This includes Brood Commanders and their Alpha variant, Chargers, Impalers, Bile Titans, Scout Striders and their reinforced variant, Hulks, Tanks, Factory Striders, and Harvesters.
- Note that Helldivers diving on top of an Anti-Tank Mine will likely detonate it.
- While they cannot detonate on smaller enemies, the Anti-Tank mines will still explode upon taking damage.
- They can be manually detonated with a firearm to damage non-heavy units on demand.
General Minefield Tips
- When not obstructed, the mines are flung into the distance between 10-20-meters across flat terrain. Differences in terrain height will affect mine deployment distance.
- The deploying mechanism is vulnerable to damage after emerging from the Hellpod. If it is destroyed prematurely, any mines in reserve will be destroyed with it and deal no damage.
- Strategic placement is key to make the most out of each minefield. Place them wherever enemies are expected to travel through, such as in the path of an enemy reinforcement, or use it to cover your flank in a retreat.
- They will explode immediately upon taking damage. This can be used to a helldiver's advantage, by shooting mines beneath enemies. Be warned that area-of-effect damage also triggers mines, notably Eagle and Orbital stratagems will destroy mines if deployed in their vicinity, which can be wasteful.
- Depending on the terrain, it is possible for mines to plant in very close proximity to one another. If one mine explodes, it will detonate its neighbors, which can start a chain reaction destroying a large amount of mines.
Applicable Ship Modules
The following Ship Modules affect the MD-17 Anti-Tank Mines:
Department | Ship Module | Effect |
---|---|---|
Bridge | Morale Augmentation | Reduces cooldown time for all Stratagems by 5%. |
Engineering
Bay |
Synthetic Supplementation | Reduces cooldown time for Sentry, Emplacement, and Resupply stratagems by 10%. |
Rapid Launch System | Removes deployment time for Emplacement stratagems. |
Trivia
- The Helldivers failed three times in acquiring this stratagem before unlocking it due to failing an mine efficacy review from Super Earth High Command.
- 26th of April 2024 - For the "Operation Legitimate Undertaking, Phase I: Citizen Rescue" Major Order, Helldivers were tasked to liberate two planets, Choohe and Penta, in order to unlock and utilize the MD-17 Anti-Tank Mines and RL-77 Airburst Rocket Launcher, respectively. Helldivers successfully liberated Penta, but made very little attempt in securing the path to Choohe. The Major Order did highlight the lack of visible supply lines, which hampered larger helldiver efforts, and supply lines were made visible in a later update.
- 10th of May 2024 - For the "Decommission Automatons for Mines" Major Order, Helldivers were tasked to decommission 2 billion Automatons in order to acquire the necessary materials to produce the MD-17 Anti-Tank Mines. Helldivers would fail again in unlocking the stratagem by not achieving the ordered amount. This subpar report delayed the production of the Anti-Tank Mines for the second time.
- 11th of June 2024 - For the "Rescue Children or Explosives" Major Order, Helldivers were tasked with liberating Marfark and Vernen Wells, with both planets containing valuable importance to Super Earth. Vernen Wells harbored civilian survivors who were sheltering in Super Citizen Anne's Hospital for Very Sick Children, with supplies dwindling; Intelligence discovered a large amounts of explosives stolen from Choohe were located on Marfark, and contained enough raw materials to produce the MD-17 Anti-Tank Mines. Due to the urgent situation for both planets, Helldivers would receive a reward for the first planet liberated (though High Command would float the idea that by liberating both planets, both rewards might be received).
- Helldivers managed to liberate Vernen Wells first, rescuing the stranded civilians inside Super Citizen Anne's Hospital for Very Sick Children, including 4,311 children, but were unable to liberate Marfark in time, achieving only around 50% completion of the liberation process by the time the Major Order expired. As a result, Super Earth was not able to secure the necessary materials to produce the MD-17 Anti-Tank Mines, leading to the Helldivers once again failing to obtain the stratagem.
- The Anti-Tank Mines were finally unlocked after Helldivers failed to kill 1,500,000 enemies for the "Mine Efficacy Review" Major Order for the Mine stratagems, proving they needed more weaponry to kill Super Earth's enemies.
- The failure to obtain this stratagem is notable as the failure of the Helldivers includes the failure to protect civilians, the subpar reduction of Automaton forces, and the termination of civilian jobs in Super Earth's industrial centers. Nonetheless, the liberation of Vernen Wells and successful rescue of the civilians there coincided with a USD$4,311 donation to the Save the Children Fund from Arrowhead CCO Johan Pilestedt and was a much-needed moral victory for the Helldiver Corps.
